Cinema petition looks doomed to fail
CALLS FROM movie-starved Enniscorthy residents are growing for the return of cinema to the town, more than two years after the last picture show at the Slaney Plaza, but it looks as though they will be to no avail.
Hundreds of film buffs have already lent their support to an online petition since it was opened last Saturday.
And they have the backing of Cllr Jackser Owens, who passed on complaints from families fed up driving their cine-hungry teenagers to Wexford. 'I would like to see the cinema open,' commented the Moran Park independent, worried that the local economy is being undermined as people head to other towns for their entertainment.
However, Plaza proprietor Graham Spurling was very cautious about the prospect of a revival of his Templeshannon enterprise with its three screens: ' I cannot see it happening,' he said candidly. ' For the last two years of it being open, there was little or no support for it.'
