A WOMAN who 'abandoned' her car when going to the Bank of Ireland at Custom House Quay in Wexford, causing chaos for other traffic coming from all directions, was hit with a €500 fine and year's ban from driving at Wexford District Court last week.
Jennifer Williams, of 62 St Brendan's Estate in Rosslare Harbour, was not present in court to face the count of parking in a manner that interfered with other traffic at The Bullring on October 28 last year.
Garda Emma Dwan told how a report was received that day of a parked car obstructing the flow of traffic in The Bullring area. She went to the scene and saw that other traffic was backed up from all directions, in such a way that nothing could move.
'Everything was at a complete standstill,' she said.
She then saw a woman get into the offending vehicle and begin to drive away. She followed her and stopped her. The woman, Jennifer Williams, said she had been in the bank and didn't realise her car was blocking others. 'She had basically just abandoned the car,' said the Garda.
Garda Dwan issued an on-the-spot fine, but it was never paid. Judge Gerard Haughton handed down the harsher penalty of the €150 fine and one-year disqualification order.
