WEXFORD county councillors have congratulated writer John Banville on his latest honour. The Man Booker prize-winning author from Wexford town has been given a Bob Hughes life time achievement award.

The 68-year-old published his first book, a collection of short stories when he was just 25 and he has not stopped writing since. His novels and detective fiction have proven especially popular and influential.

'As a Wexford man, he is doing us proud,' declared Cllr. Pat Codd.
