Awarded €10,000 by employment tribunal

An Oulart resident has been awarded more than €10,000 by an employment appeals tribunal
Mohammad Umar, with an address at 3 Kyle Meadows in Oulart successfully brought his appeal against Israr Ahmed, trading as Chilli Kebab, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.
The tribunal hearing learned that the claimant worked for Israr Ahmed and ran the business when his boss returned for a while to Pakistan to visit his family for six weeks during 2011.
Mohammad Umar stated that he had to live off his savings while his employer was away. When the proprietor returned, he told the claimant, who worked as a chef in the restaurant, there was no money for him.
Umar was awarded €342 compensation in lieu of notice, plus €5,780 under the terms of the Unfair Dismissals Acts, plus €4,788 under the terms of the Payment of Wages Act.
