An Enniscorthy teenager is baking up a storm at the moment and is all set to compete at the National Baking Finals at the National Ploughing Championships in September.

Colaiste Bride student Alice Medcalf (15) of Davidstown Foróige Club, daughter of David and Aislinn Medcalf, impressed the judges to take one of the two top places at the regional baking finals recently and is now looking forward to battling it out against the very best in the country in the hopes of winning the title of National Junior Baking Champion.

The finals take place at the Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, from September 19 to 21 and Alice will be working hard over the coming weeks to ensure that her recipes are flawless as she takes her baking before a live audience.

The theme of the competition, sponsored by Aldi, is Lemon Drizzle Cake and Alice will be hoping that she can pique the interest of the judges with her creation.

If successful, her cake will be put on sale in Aldi stores nationwide; she will receive a €1,000 bursary to help her baking journey and she'll also win a trip for her Foróige group to Delphi Adventure Centre in Mayo. The whole county will be behind her.
