€2 recycling centre charge will create more problems that solve

Sara Gahan at the Enniscorthy Municipal District meeting

The new €2 cover charge to gain entry into recycling centres across the county is creating more problems than it is solving, according to Cll Paddy Kavanagh.

Since the charge was introduced in a bid to raise extra revenue for the council, Cllr Kavanagh has received nothing but complaints from people around the district.

'We are penalising the wrong people. We are charging them for doing the right thing while others who still dump are getting away scot free,' said Cllr Kavanagh.

Cllr Keith Doyle backed Cllr Kavanagh up and said it will create more backlash for us. 'People are either going to hoard now or dump their recycling somewhere,' said Cllr Doyle.
