THE third Gerard Murphy memorial road run on October 6 promises to be a 'vintage' year.

Paddy Murphy, who lost his son through suicide reckons that the Ferns event has become one of the best supported of its kind in the country, with many vintage car clubs choosing to head to County Wexford for an end of season gathering.

'We are expecting a brilliant year,' said Paddy who spends much of the summer months promoting the run in his home town. RTE broadcaster Joe Duffy has agreed to act as official starter of the spectacular cavalcade of more than 400 old cars expected to take part.

Local radio personality Alan Corcoran is due to be on the road in pop star Suzi Quatro's vintage Mustang.

The organisers are hoping to have a record-setting number of Ford Capris. The vehicles are due to set off shortly after 1 p.m. and follow a route taking in Enniscorthy, Ballycarney, Ballymurphy, Graiguenamanagh, Borris, Mount Leinster and Bunclody.

The money raised will be donated to Console.
