Stretch raises €8,500 for cancer support
GOREY Credit Union held its first 9K Stretch last June, and it was a roaring success.
The event was so well supported, that a cheque for €8,500 was handed over last week to the HOPE Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorthy.
Over 650 people registered to take part and took part in the event, from babies in buggies, to grandparents. They ran, walked or cycled the route from Gorey Credit Union, out to The Rock, and back into town.
Refreshment stops along the way were sponsored by Pettitt's SuperValu, Gorey; and The Amber Springs Hotel; and water was sponsored by Tipperary and Glenpatrick Water; the Loch gCarman Arms; McGoverns; and Maureen's. There were numerous other sponsors from Gorey town and district including Lombard and Cullen Solicitors, Frank Doherty, and many more, which were all very much appreciated.
A huge thank you was sent to all who took part or contributed to the day, with special thanks going to Nicola O'Leary, a member of Gorey Credit Union Youth Committee, who organised the event, aided by the Youth Committee.
The Directors, managers, and staff of Gorey Credit Union all rowed in on the day of the event to assist where needed, along with a large number of volunteers also assisting with stewarding. Many remarked on the enjoyable atmosphere on the day, and many are now wondering if it will become an annual event.
