First Communion

First Communion will take place on the 18th May in Ballymurn.

Pilgrimage to Turkey

Penny Bank

Penny bank collections in Ballymurn for 2013 take place after masses on Saturdays (approx 8.45pm) and Sundays (approx 10.30am), in Ballymurn Hall

LADIES FOOTBALL

Crossabeg/Ballymurn Ladies Football training times, U14s begin training on Wednesday 20th February 6.30pm, in Ballymurn GAA Pitch, U16s and U18s every Wednesday 7.30pm in Ballymurn Pitch, Ladies teams Sunday 10am on Curracloe Beach, Tuesday 7.30pm in Crossabeg Pitch, Friday at 7pm in Ballymurn Pitch.

Ladies football training for U12s begins Thursday 28th February in Ballymurn Pitch at 6.30pm sharp, mentors for the year are Niall McDonald, Michael Scallan, Bridget Whealan, Damien Foran, Aleisha Cullen and Amanda Scallan, new players always welcome to join. The club are selling lines in Pettits on Thur/Fri/Sat 7th/8th/9th March help needed please contact Ann Doyle if you have 2 hours to spare thank you, help also needed selling St Patricks day ribbons your support would be greatly appreciated.

Tidy Towns

As Spring has arrived, it's the time of year to start making plans for this years Tidy Towns Competition. It was great to see Ballymurn doing so well last year gaining an extra 7 marks. There are lots of projects we would like to undertake this year to further our chances in this competition, so we need the help and support of all the community.

We are holding a meeting on 6th March at 8pm in the club room of the hall. So if you have any spare time and would like to get involved please come along. If you have any suggestions or ideas and can't make the meeting please contact any committee member.

Boolavogue

Drama Treat

The Moondharrig Players Drama group from Mooncoin is travelling to Boolavogue on Friday 15th March to stage a production of "Prisoners of Silence" in aid of Boolavogue N.S. funds.

The play, written by James Cheasty from Waterford is set in a pub on Christmas Day in a remote Irish seaside village. Margaret Daly is getting things in order for her guests when an unwelcome visitor interrupts the Christmas drink. A tragedy unfolds that will change all their lives forever. The Kilkenny group, which once included Olive Burke, would love to see you there for a very entertaining evening.

GAA Biggest Loser

The final challenge in the Monageer/ Boolavogue 'Biggest Loser' competition was staged on Saturday last, 2nd March with a road race from the Harrow all the way back to the club Complex in Monageer. There was a remarkable turnout with all team participating and a huge supporting cast of timekeepers, photographers, supporters and stewards coming along to help and support the participants. The final weigh-in will be in the Harrow on Saturday night, 9th March at 9.00pm.

GAA Lotto Draw

The Jackpot still survives! No one had the numbers drawn last time and so the top prize is now €10,000. The closest to the prize winning numbers was Jimmy Mernagh, who scooped the €160 'match-three' prize. The next draw will be in the Club Complex in Monageer tonight, Tuesday 5th March at 9.30pm. Everyone is invited to attend and if you have your €2 ticket, you could see your own numbers drawn.

Ministers of the Word

On Saturday night, 9th March, at the Vigil Mass for Sunday, Noleen Hennessy will be helping distribute Holy Communion and Catherine Gahan will be on duty as Eucharistic Minister on Sunday morning. Rosaleen Gahan will be reading at the Saturday evening Mass with Ann O'Sullivan reading at the Sunday morning Mass.

School Enrolment

Boolavogue National School are now taking enrolments for the 2013-2014 school year. If you wish to enroll your child, please contact Sabrina or Laura on 053-9366998 for more information. All are welcome.

First Confession

First penance will be taking place tonight Tuesday 5th March at 8.00p.m. in St Cormac's Church Boolavogue for all the children in second class. Everyone in the community is welcome to come along on the night and share the joy of reconciliation with the children and their families. They look forward seeing you there tonight.

Bookfair

The bookfair in Boolavogue National School, which started on Friday last, 1st March finishes tomorrow, Wednesday the 6th. Pupils, their parents and extended families are more than welcome to come and view the books on offer between 3.00pm

Registration Night

Monageer/Boolavogue GAA Club will be holding a second registration night for underage members this Friday 8th March between 7.00pm and 8.00pm. The season will be starting shortly and updated fixtures and results can be found on the club's website – www.monageerboolavogue.com.

Monster Quiz

Monageer/Boolavogue GAA Club hosted 20 teams for the County Board fundraiser on Thursday 21st February last in the Monageer Tavern.

There were five teams in contention right up until the final round when two teams tied for the top spot. It took four tie-questions before Paul Fenlon, Fran O'Brien, Ann Butler and Paul Touhy managed to pull the vital point ahead of Paddy Walsh, James Roben, Jimmy Mernagh, and Mark Ellix. The two silver season tickets raffled on the night were won by Anne Fenlon and Anna Murphy.

The club would like to thank everyone who contributed to a very enjoyable night especially Power Brothers in Ferns for donations received and Mary and Séamus Canavan for their hospitality.

Members and their parents are asked to note that there will be no Foróige club on 15th and 22nd March.

Bree/Galbally

Galbally Open Night

Scoil Eoin Baiste Galbally and Galbally Community Playschool are holding an open night this Tuesday 5th March at 7.30pm. All are welcome to come along to meet the principal of Scoil Eoin Baiste and leaders of the Community Playschool and to have a look at the facilities. Parents will also get an opportunity to talk to some of the current pupils who will be available to discuss the wide variety of subjects and activities they take part in. The Parents Association will provide refreshments on the night. Any queries please phone 053-9247622. Enrolment forms for September 2013 will be available on the night.

Parents Coffee Evening

Bree Parents Association would like to invite parents to a coffee evening in the community centre on Tuesday 5th March following the parent body meeting with Principal Gerry Moran. Parents are invited to attend the meeting to air items of interest or concern that parents might like the Board of Management to address over the next number of years in conjunction with the whole school community. Come along and make your voice heard, enjoy some chat and creative ideas, a cup of tea/coffee and sample some delicious homebaking.

Community Centre AGM

Bree Community Centre AGM takes place in the centre on Monday, 11th March at 8pm. All organisations which use the centre are asked to be represented. All bookings for the Community Centre must be made with Eddie Dunne to avoid a clash of events.

GAA Lotto

The winning numbers were 6, 10, 18 and 19. There was no Jackpot winner. There were 5 Match 3s, James Whelan, Mary Kearns, Treacy Cogley, Pat Shannon and Joanne Rochford. The next draw is in Byrne's of Bree on Wednesday 13th March at 8.30pm. All are welcome. Lotto tickets are on sale throughout the parish with the jackpot now standing at €1,600. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Ballyhogue GAA

Club Membership is now due and remains the same as last year. Adult €80, Family €100, U8 to U10 €10, U12 to U18 €20, Third Level Student €30, Walkway membership €10. The club would appreciate if these could be paid at the earliest opportunity. Membership/Registration night will take place in the club grounds on Friday 22nd March from 7.30pm to 9pm. New players need to be registered with the club for 2013. Training for under age teams will be commencing in April.

Juvenile Training

Training for all U16 players starts this Thursday evening at 7.15pm in Bree.

Bree Youth Club

Bree Youth Club is well into the swing of 2013. Friday 22nd February saw the club host the FDYS indoor unihoc and tag rugby finals for Juniors with Bree winning the unihoc and Courtnacuddy winning the tag rugby. Friday 8th Marchwill be sign-up time for the senior disco on 5th April. Names can only be taken on payment of cost of €10. There will be a club night as usual on March 8th. Juniors:7-8pm, Seniors: 8-9pm.

Ballyhogue NS

Enrolment for Scoil Mhuire NS, Ballyhogue for September 2013 is now taking place. If you wish to enrol your child you are welcome to call to the school or ring (053) 9247677 for an enrolment form.

Bree AC News

Congratulations to Ryan Murray who recently received an All Ireland Star Award at a function in Tullamore. Congratulations also to Pat O'Leary who recently received a Leinster All Star Award for outstanding service to athletics in Co Wexford and beyond.

Bree AC is hosting a Table Quiz on Holy Thursday night after Easter Ceremonies on the 28th March in Garry Byrne's Lounge, Bree. Your support would be appreciated. Best wishes to the Bree AC competing in the Leinster Indoor Championships this weekend in Athlone.

Bree Macra

Congratulations to Mark Waters and Michelle Hogan who won the County Wexford Macra Mr Personality and Queen of the Land titles at the weekend, in an event hosted by Kiltealy-Ballindaggin Macra na Feirme. Hard luck to the team of Niall Doyle, Fenwick O'Shea, Liam Kearney and Diarmaid Joyce who lost their Senior Debating round in Inch. Best of Luck to the Men's and Women's Basketball Teams taking part in the County Championships next weekend in Ramsgrange.

Soccer Dinner Dance

Dinner Dance will be held at the Riverbank House Hotel on Friday 26th April. Full details available from any committee member or manager.

Gathering Festival

The date for the Bree Parish Gathering Festival has been set for 13th to 15th September. It is hoped to hold a number of events and activities over the weekend incorporating Bree, Galbally and Ballyhogue.

A meeting to make plans and get your suggestions for events will be held in the coming weeks.

Vintage Tractor Run

The Galbally Vintage Tractor Run will take place on Sunday 26th May.

Coffee Morning

A coffee morning was held in Mernagh's Lounge Oylegate on Thursday morning last in aid of the Diabetes Association. A total of €100 was raised. Many thanks to all who supported the morning.

New Parish Office Times

As from March 4th the new Parish office opening hours will be as follows: Monday, Wednesday & Friday 10.00am- 12 noon. Also the Parish phone will be answered Mon-Friday 10am-6pm. Messages left outside these times will be attended to the next morning

Oylegate NS

Coffee for Belarus

There will be a coffee morning in Mernagh's Lounge in aid of Belarus, on Thursday, March 21st at 11.30 a.m. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Handball Club

There will be a night of good craic in Mernagh's, Oylegate on March 17th when the Glenbrien Handball Club.

Volunteers will be getting their kit off to get waxed. There is a very good response to the sponsorship effort so far and the club would like to say thank you to all those who have supported us and we will be out looking for your support in the next few weeks.

Deepest Sympathy

Deepest sympathy is extended to the extended Parker Families, of Martingale and Coolamain Oylegate on the recent death of their aunt Mairead Parker, Kilmuckridge and formerly Martingale Oylegate. May she Rest in Peace

Fundraiser

There was a fundraising night held in Mernagh's Lounge Oylegate last weekend for the Jade Whelan fund. A total of €1,300 was raised, so many thanks to all who supported the evening, it was greatly appreciated.
