A school essay written for English class at the FCJ Bunclody not only earned an A grade but has also been published on the internet by a national charity organisation.

When 17-year-old Shauna Redmond from Kilmyshall tackled the assigned subject of a special friendship, she decided to describe the relationship with her younger brother AJ.

He is autistic and the essay describes how the condition was diagnosed and the challenges that he has faced as a result. He required special education and has attended special school in Wexford.

Shauna's touching essay, which has been highlighted on the website of the Irish Autism Action organisation, points out that he may never learn to drive and will probably require extra care all his life – but his sister is not daunted. She wrote: 'There is no way I would ever change him, change anything about him, because to me he is perfect, unique in his own way and I feel blessed to have a brother like him.'
