A GREAT community tradition was revived when the older generation of Bree parish sat down to be served dinner by some of their younger neighbours. A total of 99 diners turned up for the Bree senior citizens party which was thrown for their entertainment by the Bree branch of Macra na Feirme.
The party goers assembled in the community centre were fed a full turkey dinner, with plenty of wine and liqueurs on offer to those who chose to imbibe. Macra chairman Niall Doyle was master of ceremonies for the occasion the latest in a line of such gatherings that was last marked in 2006.
Grace was said by Father Frank Murphy beforehand and Father Matt Boggan afterwards, before John Hogan took to the stage. Willie and Jane Wickham led the charge to the dance floor once the waltzing began, with Breda and Steve Donohoe as well as Margaret O'Gorman not shy either when it come to putting the best foot forward on the floor.
The craic continued late into the evening as Nick Dempsey was called up to deliver a recitation and then Mark Waters closed the show with some splendid songs. All present thoroughly enjoyed themselves and everyone was agreed that the series should be resumed on an annual basis.
