Old Folks Club celebrate another successful year

ST. COLUMBA'S Old Folks Club, Gorey, celebrated another busy year at its recent AGM. Chairperson Phyliss Dempsey thanked all who contributed and helped the club during the year.

She also thanked her committee for their fundraising efforts and all who helped them and donated to the club which will celebrate its 50th birthday next year. Special mention was given to members of the club who passed away during the past year and are greatly missed. Treasurer Anita Fyfe then outlined the finances of the club, and stressed the importance of continued fundraising to keep the club healthy, and she hoped for the ongoing support of the local community.

The meeting was chaired by Cllr. Robbie Ireton who thanked the committee and the club members for maintaining such a vibrant and valuable service to the local community.

The committee for the coming year is as follows: Chairperson, Phyliss Dempsey; Assistant Chairperson, Mary Sheil; Treasurer, Anita Fyfe; Asst. Treasurer, Marie Deegan; Secretary, Margaret Cooper; Asst. Secretary, Karen Kenny; PRO, Eileen Kavanagh; committee, Anne McGreal; Shelly Kenny; Mags Kenny; and Frances Murphy. Tributes were paid to Kate Kelly who stepped down from the committee.

New memebers are welcome to call in to the hall at Sean O'Byrne Park, on Tuesday afternoons between 12 noon and 3 p.m. for lunch, tea, chat and activities including bingo.
