GERALDINE O'CONNOR from Ashbrook in Greenville thought she was heading to a Bill Haley night in the Bailey.
Instead husband Pat led her into an ambush as friends and family were all waiting to wish her a happy 50th birthday. Surprise!
'She took three steps back with the fright,' reported Pat gleefully, delighted that secrecy was maintained during 12 months of advance planning for the party. Among those present were wellwishers from as far away as Sligo and Dublin. Geraldine's sister Eileen arrived from London with her two daughters.
The birthday girl's parents Ivy and Padraig Dillane had less far to travel, as they made the short trip to the Old Barracks from the Ross Road. Offspring Shauni and Tyler were in attendance too. And in the end, Geraldine was allowed her ration of rock'n'roll, laced with some soul music from the Seventies and Eighties.
