A CALL has gone out for the public to respect the playground equipment in Gorey Town Park, after the County Council recently spent €€5,000 repairing the equipment there.
Two pieces of playground equipment were replaced in recent weeks, at a cost of approximately €2,500 approx. each. A spokesperson for the Council confirmed that the previous equipment had to be removed because of age and 'persistent abuse'.
In a statement, the Chairman of Wexford County Council, Malcolm Byrne, urged that the new equipment be respected and asked that if anyone is found causing damage, that they be reported to the Council or the Gardaí.
'The Town Park is an enormous asset to the area and its enjoyment should not be spoiled by the actions of a few,' he said.
He has also asked the Gardaí for added patrols in the park, especially on nights where anti-social behaviour is more likely to occur, disturbing those living nearby.
'The park is for everyone and should be respected and cherished,' he commented. 'I would hope that one day we would see it fully lit and much more accessible.' He said the Council remains committed to the long term joint development of the Town Park and the neighbouring Showgrounds.
