Flying the Purple and Gold for Wexford Day

Published 17/06/2014 | 05:30

Holly Sinnott Scoil Mhuire and Rhianna Jarrett raise the flag with Cllr Oliver Doyle vice chairman Wexford County Council and Cllr Michael Sheehan as pupils look on.

The purple and gold flag will be raised around the county over the weekend of June 21 and 22 as schools, clubs and communities celebrate Wexford Day.

The Wexford County Council initiative started four years ago encourages people to take pride in their place.

'It's an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the essence of County Wexford,' said Council chairman Malcolm Byrne who officiated at this year's launch.

Many schools are organising flag raising ceremonies while exhibitions and musical events are also planned across the county. Community walks will be taking place in various locations on Saturday, June 21. For details check the Sports Active page of the Wexford County Council website.
