Drugs charge duo lose €6,000 bail
Bail money totalling €6,000 was forfeited as two Vietnamese defendants failed to appear to meet cannabis cultivation charges at the District Court in Gorey last week.
The case of Hong Le (47) and Ms. Wen Vu (47) both of no fixed abode were charged with operating a grow house at Ballinastraw in Glenbrien last September. An interpreter was present in court, as was solicitor Ed King.
When the case against his client was called by court clerk Fiona Doyle, Mr. King pointed out that the pair had always appeared on previous occasions. Judge John Lindsay moved on to other matters while the solicitor attempted to make contact by phone.
When the case was re-called, Ed King reported that he knew of no reason why the defendants were not present. Garda Inspector Pat Cody successfully applied for bench warrants for their arrest and the judge ordered forfeiture of the bail monies of €3,000 put up by both accused.
