LOUTH travelled to Walsh Island in Offaly for this fixture and it turned out to be a rather futile mission. It was twenty minutes after the official starting time before the home side could muster a team and within five minutes of the start it was clear that they had but a shadow side on duty.
By then Louth had scored 2-2 and they were in control throughout the field.
Marty Duffy and Ryan Rooney contributed 1-1 each to the opening blitz and with a generous supply of ball coming into the forwards Dara Lafferty, Ryan Burns and Duffy added further goals to put their side 5-6 to 0 -1 ahead at half time.
Offaly netted two quick goals after half time as Louth introduced all of their substitutes in quick succession.
The Reds dropped their level of performance considerably in the second half and their scores came from Ryan Rooney, Ryan Burns with two points from forty fives and Frank Osadebe.
It was futile to assess the performance of the Louth players but their key men were strong and many others got a chance to impress the selectors for the next round.
Selectors/mentors with the team on the day were Shane Lennon and Terry Donegan, who were understandably frustrated with events on the day.
