Substitute Rooney hits the winner

SUBSTITUTE Jamie Rooney lifted Ardee Celtic into the top three in Division 1 with a late winner as the mid Louth's fine start to the season continued in Navan on Sunday morning.

First blood went to Ardee from a set piece as a corner kick was flicked on by Robbie Coyle for Ollie Hammie to apply the finishing touch, and but for a brilliant save by the home keeper to keep out Gatis Logins' long-range strike they would have led 2-0 at the break.

Straight after the interval Logins rounded the Navan netminder, only to blaze over with the goal gaping, and it seemed that Ardee might pay a high price when Navan equalised from a free kick move.

The home side were getting on top at that stage, but with the help of their subs Ardee regained the initiative in the latter stages and on 83 minutes Rooney planted a header into the Navan net after latching onto Kenny McKenna's corner kick.

ARDEE CELTIC: Declan Butler, Robert Reynolds, Aaron Knowles, Niall Eccles, Robbie Coyle, Ollie Hammie (Jamie Rooney), Niall Taaffe, Robbie McNeice, Lorcan Myles (Alan Udijole), Kenny McKenna, Gatis Logins.
