NEWFOUNDWELL safely booked their place in the next round of the Fitzsimons Cup following this comprehensive victory over town neighbours Laurences in Monasterboice.
The visitors from Division 3 were resolute early on, but Newfoundwell - who play one level higher - eventually hit the front on the half-hour through John Kermode, before extending their lead soon after thanks to Jack Kierans.
Laurences weren't going to throw in the towel, though, and with the help of Tommy O'Boyle they tightened up in defence before halving the deficit through Cudden. For a short spell it was anyone's game, but normal service was resumed when Johnny Carroll made it 3-1. Shane Lowney then added a double and he nearly completed a hat-trick, striking the bar with a header. NEWFOUNDWELL: K Fox, G Smith (D Traynor), S Murphy, C O'Brien, J Carroll, B Kermode (C Reid), S Lowney, J Kierans, P Moore, J Kermode (JR Coddington), K Dyas.
