Perfect conditions to give Drogs good start
SUNDAY morning saw perfect conditions for this under 16s clash.Drogheda started the better and had the ball in the net within the first five minutes when Ben McKenna headed home from a cross only for it to be disallowed for what the ref saw as a foul on the defender.
Drogheda pressed on and Tiege Caffrey was unlucky when his shot went just wide after some neat passing between Aaron Kenna,Sean Birch and Caffrey.
Drogheda did break the deadlock midway through the first half when a defensive clearance fell to Ben McKenna who's powerful shot put the Boys in front,1-0.
Drogheda had some more really good chances to double their lead with Andy Lynch working tirelessly, but to no avail.
Slowly WFTA got into the game and had a good chance to equalize only for Drogheda keeper Adam Tuohy to palm the ball out for a corner.
After the break Drogheda failed to get going and found themselves back on level terms when the referee awarded a penalty for what seemed to be a 50/50 challenge.1-1.
Drogheda made some changes bringing on Ruadhan Walsh and Danny Smith. With a huge increase in tempo Drogheda were now carving out chance after chance with Kenna,Birch,Smith and Walsh all going close for the boys. Finally when a ball through the middle was flicked on by Andy Lynch into the path of Ruadhan Walsh to finish off neatly,2-1.
Again Drogheda kept pressing and were unlucky not to get a third but just at the death a long ball saw the away striker one on one with the Drogheda keeper only for defender Jack Newman to make a last ditch challenge from the side to clear the ball and help Drogheda take all three points.Unbeaten now in four games, the Boys march on.
