TWO Michael Leddy goals helped turn this DDSL Under-11 clash on its head as Drogheda Boys claimed all three points on a fine Sunday morning in Rathmullen.
Lourdes started the brighter, playing a fine brand of football, and perhaps the Boys were guilty of paying them a bit too much respect.
The defensive partnership of Eoghan Maguire and Cole Everitt worked to very good effect and goalkeeper Ciaran O'Dwyer handled everything that was thrown at him, and although Lourdes finally managed to get a first-half lead battling displays from Fionn Meagher, PJ McCrae and Alex Agbonifo ensured the Boys kept in touch.
The second half was a different affair, with Drogheda settling down and pushing for an equaliser. Michael Soyemi could have added to his tally for the season, but it was Leddy who finally struck, following up on a fine delivery from Anthony O'Donnell to lob the ball over the keeper.
This gave the boys more confidence and Kyle McElroy's superb free kick was cheered loudly from the line as the Boys took the lead. Leddy's second goal followed shortly after when he pounced on a defensive error to make it 3-1.
Josh Walls was moved into defence and put in a majestic display as he effortlessly turned defence into attack throughout the second half, while Cole Everitt's switch to midfield also turned the game in Drogheda's favour.
