Harps in promotion shake-up

Boyne Harps were marginally more efficient in front of goal than when they drew 0-0 with Drogheda Marsh Crecent the previous weekend.

BOYNE Harps moved to within touching distance of Division 1 leaders Muirhevnamor with this hard-fought victory in difficult conditions at Meadowview on Sunday.

It was a case of two different halves for Harps as they produced some of their best football this season in the first period, went 20 ahead and were also guilty of some woeful finishing. They got off to the perfect start, scoring within the first two minutes when Damien Judge put Darren Kierans through on goal and he finished into the bottom corner.

Boyne were totally dominating midfield and Mark Malocca was causing Torro all sorts of problems down the left side. He twice set up Manny Smith who fired both efforts just wide.

Harps' second goal arrived on the half-hour mark, and centre-half Shane Kierans showed the forwards how it should be done when he curled the ball home from the edge of the box.

It was a different story in the second half, though, as Torro went on the offensive and pulled a goal back within two minutes of the restart through their centre forward.

Boyne struggled to get their momentum going and the game turned scrappy, and it wasn't until the last minute that the Drogheda outfit sealed victory, Keith McDonagh superbly heading home Colin Rafferty's corner kick. BOYNE HARPS: Bryan Smith, Keith Mullally, Ollie Smith, Shane Kierans, Helder Gonclaves, Colin Rafferty, Luke Traynor, Mark Malocca, Damien Judge (Keith McDonagh), Manny Smith, Darren Kierans.
