Ardee Celtic in top spot after defeat of Square Utd in derby

A CROWD of around 200 watched the derby bragging rights go to Ardee Celtic as they leapfrogged town rivals Square into top spot in Division 1 with this victory at College Park.

The game remained scoreless until the half-hour mark when Dean McLoughlin deflected a corner kick to the Square net, seemingly with his shoulder.

Square had a few opportunities either side of half-time, but they came up against an in-form keeper in Conor Ryan who dealt comfortably with any balls that came his way.

Ardee then doubled their lead in the 60th minute when a ball broke kindly in the box for Paul Carrie who swept the ball home.

At that stage the home side still weren't quite dead and buried, but goal three in the 78th minute was a fatal blow and it was Carrie again who pounced to score a very similar goal to the one he netted earlier.

Ardee saved their best until last as striker Gatis Logins found the top corner of the Square net with a sweetly struck left-footed shot.

ARDEE CELTIC: Conor Ryan, Aaron Knowles, Liam Shevlin (Fintan Clarke), Niall Eccles, Robbie McNeice, Kenny McKenna, Neil McLoughlin, Paul Carrie, Tommy Taaffe (Alan Quigley), Dean McLoughlin (McMullen), Gatis Logins.
