A LAST-MINUTE Cathal Duffy try earned Boyne a fully-deserved replay from this thrilling Leinster League Under-19 Division 1 semi-final at Ashbourne last Saturday.
Following their narrow cup defeat the previous week, the Boyne team's morale was sreadfast against the more fancied Kildare side.
The Drogheda lads were a bit slow to get into their rhythm and allowed NUIM to breach their defence for two early tries, one of which they converted to go 12-0 up before Boyne had even realised they were in a game.
However, the forwards began to assert themselves and as a result they provided a good platform from the scrums for their outside backs. This yielded an excellent try, which they failed to convert, which brought the score to 12-5 at half-time.
Boyne lost their concentration at the start of the second half and allowed NUIM Barnhall regain the initiative from the kick-off to score an unconverted try.
But rather than let their heads drop, the Drogheda boys fought back with a full seven-pointer to reduce the deficit to just five points at 17-12 and both teams were now playing with purpose.
Boyne nailed the next score when they crossed for a try to even up the scores, but Barnhall were not finished yet and when they got over for an unconverted late try - 22-17 - they looked to be heading for victory.
To their credit, though, Boyne kept pushing and prop Duffy popped up with a timely score to ensure the sides must do it all again.
