A DUNLEER teenager who only picked up a tennis racquet for the first time 18 months ago is celebrating a major success.
Eighteen-year-old Lauren Sheeran from Tinure landed the Ladies Singles Championship at Termonfeckin Tennis Club recently, coming through some gruelling challenges against vastly more experienced opponents.
The race for the prestigious Dolan Cup started way back in October and was played on a knockout basis, and at the end of it all rookie Lauren came out on top. She received her trophy at the club where the men's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles prizes were also distributed.
Lauren would like to thank Termonfeckin Tennis Club for their great facilities and dedicated committee, her coach and former Ireland international Margret Drew and also her dad, who trains with her on a regular basis.
