POWERSCOURT Golf Club presented a cheque for €21,130 to Wicklow Hospice last week, the proceeds from a day of fundraising held by the Captain and Lady Captain of the club.
The annual event has raised more than €235,000 over the past eleven years for a range of local and national charities.
On Sunday, June 8, the members of Powerscourt Golf Club and their guests braved a wet and blustery morning to kick off a day of fundraising for the Wicklow Hospice Foundation.
The foundation is a voluntary organisation set up by the people of Wicklow to improve and promote palliative care services in the community.
With two shotgun events scheduled, the afternoon players got the better weather on the day. The winners of the morning event were Simon Elliot, Jack Slattery, David Smith and Billy Riordan on 86 points and the afternoon winners were David Cantwell, David Lowe, Cecil Hayes and Carol Lowe on 91 points.
The event was a great success with tremendous support from Powerscourt Golf Club members, their guests, sponsors including Volkswagen Ireland and the wider community. Powerscourt Golf Club members were delighted to raise in excess of €20,000 for the Wicklow Hospice Foundation.
At a very well attended dinner Dr Brendan Cuddihy Chairman of the Wicklow Hospice Foundation gave an update on the progress to date with their fundraising and thanked the members of Powerscourt for their support.
