Marathon effort for charity
A CHEQUE for €25,491.50 has been presented to the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre from Team Carrie after the 2012 Dublin Marathon.
The Marathon group, based in Dunleer, had been in training for 22 weeks for the Dublin event and also took part in a series of races including the Dunleer 4 mile, Irish Runner 5 mile, Fingal 10k, Frank Duffy 10 mile and the Dublin Half Marathon.
In total 78 runners completed the Dublin Marathon (26.2 miles), with 44 making their Marathon debuts.
Speaking at the presentation evening, Centre chairperson Paddy Dwyer said: 'On behalf of everyone at the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre I would like to say a very big thank-you to all Team Carrie for running the Dublin Marathon and raising funds for the Centre. It truly was a magnificent achievement for all 78 runners who crossed the finish line on Marathon day after five months of training.
'In 2012 we had over 6,600 visits to the Centre from people living with cancer and it is because of magnificent efforts like Team Carrie that the centre can continue to provide a very wide range of services free of charge.'
Team Carrie would like to thank everyone for supporting their Marathon mission, especially LMFM Late Lunch, Dunleer Athletic Club and Joe McDermott of Mid Louth Camera Club.
