THIS YEAR there was much local success at the Bellewstown Races. The big race on Friday, the Fast Shipping Hurdle, was won by Xsquared trained by Joanna Morgan in Co Meath and given a superb ride by Paul Carberry, just getting up in the shadows of the winning post.

Saturday's all flat card resulted in a double for trainer Ger Lyons and Trim rider Colin Keane. This was young Keane's 99th career success and he came agonisingly close to his 100th winner later in the afternoon.

There were also other local successes for John Larkin who trains near Togher, John McConnell who trains just a short distance from Bellewstown, George Stanley from Fairyhouse, Dunsany trainer Andy Lynch & Summerhill jockey Robbie Colgan, and Gordon Elliott from Longwood who had two winners overall.

Overall, approx. 12,000 graced the 'Hill' over the 3 days and everyone is already looking forward to the August festival which takes place on the Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th.
