Extremely successful year for Boyne
BOYNE Hockey Club have been reflecting on their most successful season to date after two of their teams triumphed in the Leinster Junior League.
The burgeoning club was only established in 2009 and now boasts more than 150 active junior members, ranging in age from five to 16 and training twice a week at Drogheda Grammar School's state-of-the-art pitch.
Boyne also has a senior section with more than 30 members (ladies and men) training together once a week.
The club has three competitive teams - Extreme 8s (Under-12s), Extreme 8s (Under-14s) and the Junior League team (Under-16s) - who have been participating in both friendly and competitive matches and all three of these teams reached the finals of their divisions in this year's Leinster Junior League.
Last Sunday week was an especially proud day for the club as both the Junior League and Extreme 8s (Under-14s) led Boyne HC to victory with decisive wins over Stillorgan and Hermes respectively in the League Finals held at St Andrew's School in Booterstown, Co Dublin.
It has been a busy season also for the club's younger members (1st Class to 5th Class) who played a large number of non-competitive blitz matches with other Leinster hockey clubs.
Boyne Hockey Club would like to extend thanks to Drogheda Grammar School and retiring principal Richard Schmidt for their support and generosity since the club's inception.
