THE Dunleer AC/Scoil Ui Mhuiri team held a final preparation meeting at the local school last Thursday night, ahead of this week's Ocean State Cross-Country event across the Atlantic in Rhode Island.
Team leader Jacqueline Matthews presented the final draft of the itinerary for the US trip and the students were presented with their athletics gear for the event. Singlets were presented by Principal Fiona Kindlon on behalf of Scoil Uí Mhuirí, while sweatshirts and sports bags were presented by Kevin Matthews, chairman of Dunleer AC on behalf of the club.
Other sponsors of the team along the way were sincerely thanked on the night, including Glen Dimplex, Centra Dunleer, Louth VEC/LMETB, JF Travel, Prout Alarms and Team Carrie.
Meanwhile, many Dunleer AC athletes competed in the Star of the Sea Cross-Country event last Sunday. Grace Fitzpatrick was a winner in the Girls Under-10 event, with Finn Reilly sixth Under-13, Seaghna Campbell third Under-14 and Garry Campbell sixth Under-17.
Patrick Farrell was fourth and Sean McEvoy 12th in the Boys Under-10 and Ciara Matthews and Aisling Matthews both ran well at Under-13 and Under-11 level respectively.
Meanwhile in Vicarstown, the Cheshire family were out in force running to 'beat the barge' in this novel event, with Oisín, Emma and Shane all winning prizes in their categories.
