Boynesiders bring class to the table as they take Leinster title
THE final round of games in the Leinster Table Tennis Division 1 Shield were played last week, with a daunting trip around the M50 to Dundrum awaiting local St Pauls team Oliver Adamson, Eddie Hockey and Stephen Dunne.
Their previous encounter with the table-toppers produced a very close game, with the Boynesiders edging it 5-4, and another tight clash was anticipated.
The winner-takes-all showdown started well for the visitors when former Irish international vet Adamson rolled back the years with a great attacking display to overcome Marek Grellu 3-1.
Big-hitting Frenchman Roman Barth levelled proceedings in the next, before Hockey restored St Pauls' lead with a very close 3-2 win.
Dundrum took the next match to draw level at 2-2 in sets and the anticipated nail-biter was now on the cards.
Game five turned out to be the turning point as Dunne defeated Sean Woods, spurring Hockey to victory in the next match to make it 4-2 with only three doubles matches remaining.
Dundrum rallied to take the next match, but the in-form duo of Hockey and Dunne powered their way to victory in the next match to claim the Division 1 Shield title on a final score of 6-3.
