Trim rally kills off Emmets' dreams
KILLARY Emmets' bid for championship honours came unstuck after their challenge faded dramatically in the second half of this MF Division 2 decider at Skryne.
The Syddan/Castletown combination, trailing by three points at the break, narrowed the gap early in the second half, but that Jamie McMahon pointed free was their only score in the second 30 minutes, during which Trim dominated to record a comfortable victory.
The town side enjoyed the better of the exchanges throughout the opening 15 minutes as they built up a 0-6 to 0-1 lead, but Killary fought back with points from McMahon, Sean Clare and Rowe to reduce the deficit.
On 20 minutes Trim captain Kevin Nally found the net for his side's opening goal, but almost immediately Daire Rowe replied with a similar effort at the other end and at half-time Trim led 1-7 to 1-4.
However, Trim took complete control in the second half as they ran up a tally of 1-7 without reply and after the game Minor Board chairman John Kavanagh presented the Division 2 cup to their captain Kevin Nally.
