Na Piarsaigh stun Plunketts
OLIVER Plunketts travelled to Na Piarsaigh knowing that a victory would leave them level with St Josephs at the top of the Division 2 table but they left empty handed with the Dundalk side running out comprehensive winners.
The home team opened the scoring in the first minute with a David Boyle penalty and raced into a 1-6 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes thanks mainly to a home forward line that was full of running.
The Plunketts dominated the middle of the half but kicked six wides on the trot before two goals by Cormac Malone in 24th and 28th minutes left the home side leading 3-6 to 0-1 at half time.
Plunketts dominated the first 15 minutes of second half but continued to accumulate more wides until a penalty save in 15th minute by Na Piarsaigh goalkeeper Donal Greene lifted the home side back into action and they kicked three points. Corner back Joe Woods got the score of the game by starting and finish an attack with a point.
The win brings Na Piarsaigh up to seven points and back in the hunt for a top four finish.
