Boyne quartet compete with the county's best

NO fewer than four young Boyne AC athletes formed part of the Girls Under-12 Louth team for Sunday's All-Ireland Cross-Country Even Age Championships at Fairyhouse.

The rain was kind enough to stay away, ensuring a cold but dry day, and after a slight change of venue due to a waterlogged field, the cream of Ireland's crop gave an exhilarating performance over some very tough terrain.

Battling the fierce competition of almost 200 athletes over a distance of 2,000m were Boyne's Jessica Welsh, Moya McCabe, Ciara Gough and Kenza Cherouat. Running out of age, 10-year-olds Jessica and Moya both recently qualified from the Leinsters CrossCountry Championships to represent Louth, and both ran a fantastic race, with Jessica leading the way for Boyne AC and finishing in the top five for the county.

Ciara Gough also wore the red vest of Louth with pride and gave a fine display of her abilities over the muddy and wet course. Teammate Kenza Cherouat had a strong start, but unfortunately injury prevented her from completing the race.
