Time for a more practical approach to FAS training?

Dear Sir, I RECENTLY attended my local FAS office enquiring about what courses may be available to me in the hope of future employment.
I suddenly felt optimistic as I noticed many courses were on offer. So I approached the counter and asked the lady 'could you please show me the courses which are available that will lead me to employment when it's finished?'
The lady was very helpful and very honest when she replied that none were guaranteed with employment when you finished.
My optimism very quickly turned to confusion.
As I walked out I began to think that maybe they could run a course to show people how to survive on €188 a week.
Surely this would be more practical in this current economic climate than being trained for a job that doesn't exist.
Yours, Mr G Burns,
