The Boyne greenway is now finished - but who is going to maintain it?

THE NEW €800,000 Boyne Greenway could become overgrown with weeds - because there's no one to keep it clean.

The Laytown/Bettystown Municipal Council meeting heard that there were weeds growing up through the boards of the Oldbridge facility.

'It is a great amenity and people are using it, but is there a maintenance plan for it? There's weeds growing on it,' Cllr Wayne Harding stated.

He was told that there would be a discussion with the transport department but there were just four people employed in the region and they would find it hard to maintain it.

'It's unlikely it will be us,' stated engineer Jim Colwell, 'unless we can get more resources.'
