THE wife and three-year-old child of a singer who shot to fame on the Voice of Ireland, were bound and gagged by an armed gang in a 'horrifying' attack at the family's new home near Duleek.
Mark Guildea from Balbriggan, who caught the public's attention on the Voice of Ireland with his husky voice, had moved with his young family to the area in search of a 'quiet and peaceful rural life', he stated.
But that peaceful existence was shattered last Wednesday night when four armed men broke in shortly after 11 p.m., tied up his wife and three-year-old daughter and ransacked the house.
He said that his wife, Allison, and daughter, Holly, were 'doing well' following what he described as a 'horrifying' incident.
Gardaí at Ashbourne are investigating the violent crime and say the raiders were armed with what is believed to be a small handgun, a knife and an axe.
They took a number of legally held firearms, ammunition and assorted personal property. They also took the owner's car which was later found abandoned near the M50.
In a follow-up operation Gardaí searched a number of properties in the Rathmines area of Dublin and a number of firearms were recovered together other assorted property.
