Spate of thefts from cars

GARDAI ARE investigating a spate of thefts from cars in recent days.

A car window was smashed at the Boyne Valley Country Club on Friday between 1 and 3 p.m. A Sat Nav and a wallet were stolen in the incident.

Also at lunchtime on the same day, a van which was parked at the Black Bull on the Dublin Road was targeted. The passenger window was broken and a laptop and digital camera removed.

The previous day, at the neighbouring Wheaton Hall estate, a handbag containing a wallet, iPod and other personal items was removed from a car. The driver had left the car for ten minutes shortly after 1 p.m.

Gardai are examining CCTV footage in all three cases.

Thieves escaped empty-handed from two houses over the weekend.

The first incident was at a vacant property in Rathmullen Park, when robbers broke in through the front door. An interior door was also damaged in the incident, which took place at around 1 a.m. Extensive criminal damage was caused however nothing appears to have been stolen.

An alarm disturbed thieves from a house in Gleann Alainn in the early hours of Sunday morning. An attempt was made to gain access to the home at around 2.40 a.m. through a rear door, however, they ran off when the alarm was activated, and the occupants alerted.
