THE DEATH took place on October 27 of Shirley Daly from Balbriggan, formerly of South Africa.
Here, her friend, Lynn Drummond writes about their times together in South Africa.
' You are so much in my thoughts and prayers and I so wish I could also have gone across to see you, but unfortunately am not allowed to fly – on chemo myself now.
However, I just wanted to say how much I treasure the memories of all the wonderful times we had together – the mad dashes down to Durban after work, to see shows, the hikes, the camps, beach weekends and of course, the Otter Trail – as well as other trails. And who could forget those crazy swim/hikes at Cobham and the Sehlabathebe and Mike's Pass weekends?
Most of all, I shall always remember the laughs – we seemed to be able to laugh at anything and everything, especially ourselves! Your joie-de-vivre was so infectious – thank you for that too.
I always admired your work ethic, your unfailing honesty, forthrightness and determination that everything should be done absolutely meticulously and correctly, whatever the personal cost.
And so precious friend, thank you for enriching my life in so many ways and for the treasure chest of memories you have left me with.
I have a deep and abiding certainty that we shall meet again and look forward to the laughs I can only share with you.
It is so reassuring to know that you are in the best possible hands, and that you are having the pain management you need, and the loving support of everyone around you – I wish I could be one of them. Love you always.'
