A SCENE of total devastation greeted local residents in Ballsgrove on Thursday morning last.
Some were shocked at the level of destruction left in the wake of a massive bonfire just hours earlier on Halloween night.
'It's just not fair. We are left with this mess,' one local resident told the Drogheda Independent. 'It is a disgrace'.
A massive clean up operation had to be undertaken by the council as a result.
Amongst the items dumped were a bed and mattress, a settee and shopping trollies.
It was also reported people drove onto the green area and dumped bags of household rubbish onto the blaze.
A number of them were left strewn about the green the following day.
' This happens every year and despite our appeals it still happens. Is all of this not illegal?,' the resident added.
It is believed the local authority arranged for a number of items to be removed from the scene early on Wednesday, such as tyres.
