FAMILY members and friends of David Kelly, the father-of-two who died at the North Strand in the early hours of Friday morning, gathered in a packed Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Tuesday morning to say their last farewells.
The 41-year-old dad was described as hard-working and popular, who loved his football and was dedicated to his teams Liverpool FC and Drogheda United.
His death is being investigated by the Garda Ombudsman after an incident with a firearm last Friday morning on the North Strand. FAMILY and friends of David Kelly are trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of a much loved individual.
'I couldn't believe it when I heard what had happened David,' said friend Anthony Connor, who worked with David in Bitech in Dunleer a number of years ago. 'A nicer fella you couldn't meet back then, and he helped me out a lot when I started out.'
Many others went onto social networks to express their shock at his sudden death.
David was originally from Mellifont Park, North Road, but had lived in Grange Rath for the last nine years.
He was a popular member of staff at Glanbia where he had worked for the past 13 years.
Hundreds turned out on Tuesday morning for his funeral mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
