Runner Don still going strong
I have been keeping an eye on Don Thornton's quite remarkable challenge.
The Drogheda man - and quite a soccer player in his day - is in the process of raising money for the Drogheda Branch of the Alzheimer's Society by running 10k a day for 365 days.
He has about 90 days to go at this stage, but has come through some tough days to make it this far.
He can be seen out Clogherhead and Termonfeckin direction quite a bit and no doubt, any sponsors willing to come on board to back him are most welcome.
Boyne Boats and St Patrick
An interesting one. St. Patrick once travelled up the Boyne to Slane and the crew at Boyne Boats believe that most of the journey was by currach. Now they are offering you the chance to follow in his footsteps. You can hop on at the Sealock on the boyne canal and paddle through the site of the Battle of the Boyne and recreate your own bit of his historical journey. Perfect for all ages.
They have a special offer all St Patrick's weekend, March 17-19, adults €10, kids €5. Call 0863616420 for more details.
The boats used are from the Game of Thrones programme.
Ronan's works of art
Drogheda man (well, we'll claim him despite the fact that he's lived on Achill Island for nearly two decades) Ronan Halpin is to stage two great shows shortly.
'Of Birds and Beasts' will be based in the Custom House Studios, Westport from 20 April -14 May and then the Solomon Gallery, Dublin from 22 June -15 July 2017.
He has a marvellous array of artwork. Long live the genius!
