Run of the country for local charities

The Run Of The Country Charity Motorbike Tour will take place on 30th September 2017 and is seeking 50 motorcyclists to support the fundraising efforts again this year.

To date this small brotherhood of bikers has raised over €68,000 for Drogheda charities.

Again they are seeking more big hearted bikers to sign up this year to support Malta Services Drogheda.

The Run Of the Country has covered 52,500 miles for charity over the last seven years. From Ballybay to Portlaoise, Wicklow Town to Kinnegad with Roscommon, Longford and Virginia in between the run has criss-crossed the country for charity. The organisers want to build on the previous successful runs.

Gone are the days when bikers were a scary bunch. Now many enjoy their biking while raising money for some excellent local services.

The Run Of The Country Charity Motorbike Tour is a thrilling one day, 250 mile charity motorcycle tour. It's the best little charity motorcycling event in Ireland some say.

Malta Services Drogheda provides supports and services to over 100 adults with intellectual disabilities. The level of support and service provision differs from person to person. Malta Services run a number of different educational and community programmes as well as offering support to people who choose to work in the open labour market.

All of these combine to empowering people to live a full life of their choosing within their community, so that each person can make their own contribution to Irish society and culture.

Michael McCormick, the organiser of the run, said "It is a highlight for many of the chaps and I enjoy knowing the destination and keeping everyone in the dark about where they are going".

Claire Byrne said "Malta Services is absolutely delighted to be involved with the bikers again this year".

Principal sponsors of the event are local businesses Height for Hire and Kennedy Motorcycles.

Harry McArdle owner of Height For Hire said. "When I got involved with these guys seven years ago I never dreamed how successful it would be. We're delighted to be on board again".

Kennedy Motorcycles has supported the event from the start and Jimmy Kennedy commented "I enjoy it because every time I pass Malta Services I feel good that I have been involved in supporting a local service."

Tuites Butchers has provided the breakfasts meats that give the riders a great start for the tour. "Great to be involved again, super bunch of bikers", remarked Eddie Tuite.

Registration fee for the event is €65 to cover accommodation also, €185 sponsorship is requested from each of the riders in the run. The event takes place on 30th September 2017 leaving Malta Services, Fair Street between 9:00am and 10:00am.
