FORMER STUDENTS in the recently closed Congress Avenue and Fatima schools are literally snapping up their old desks - inkwells and all!

With the opening of the new St Mary's Parish School in September, the parish felt the time was right to sell off the old-style desks, some dating back to the middle part of the last century. 'People love the idea and there's been a great response,' said St Mary's PP Denis Nulty.

'We are taking some of the newer tables and chairs but some stuff won't just fit or suit,' he stated.

'So, the old desks were here and we decided to invite the former students to buy them if they wish.'

At €40 each, the desks have been flying out the doors of both schools.' There are still a few left to go in Congress and I had a call from a man last week who wanted four of them. They are pretty unique and once they are gone, they're gone.'

Those interested in getting a desk can contact Marie in Congress and Matilda in Fatima.
