The sale of the building on George’s Street is ‘almost finalised’, according to auctioneer Tommy Byrne.

THE NAME of the new owner of the former brass bandrooms in George's Street may be still under wraps, but there is still great excitement at the prospect of the premises ringing with noise once more.

THE NAME of the new owner of the former brass bandrooms in George's Street may be still under wraps, but there is still great excitement at the prospect of the premises ringing with noise once more.

Ever the politician, auctioneer Tommy Byrne was expressing his delight at the sale, which is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, while keeping the identity of the buyer firmly under his hat.

'I am thrilled to say that the sale is almost finalised, and the purchase by a community group with hundreds of members, will be a real boost to the town,' he told the Drogheda Independent diplomatically.

'It will really open up this part of the town again, and I'm sure the owner will make it known themselves when the contracts are exchanged.'

The bandrooms are not the only high-profile sale agreed sign in the busy street.

The former Fusion nightclub and the accompanying public house have also been snapped up by a separate buyer.

'That is also very exciting, as it will no doubt bring employment back to that business, and clean-up that part of the street,' added Tommy.

'Both the buyers are local, and the sales will be hopefully closed in a matter of weeks.'
