'Miracle' there were no injuries as pole crashes onto the street
NO INJURIES were reported when an ESB pole crashed onto the street at St Mary's Villas last Saturday afternoon.
Local councillor Tommy Byrne said he wants an inspection of all 'suspect' poles immediately following the incident.
'It's a miracle that there was no loss of life or anyone injured. The pole was marked red for danger four years ago and should have been replaced. The weather was very calm at the time which makes it all the more worrying. There are many timber E.S.B. poles throughout the town in a similar condition and I noticed two on the Marsh Road at the entrance to Poorhouse Lane,' he stated.
He has contacted the Borough Engineer Pat Finn, asking if he'd get the ESB to 'carry out an inspection of all their timber poles in the town and replace them where necessary in the interest of public safety'.
