Man (49) was found lying on ground at Alverno Terrace

A man who was found lying on the ground in a highly intoxicated state has been given more time to come up with €200.

Declan Murphy (49) was found by gardai on the ground at Alverno Terrace in Laytown on April 25th, 2016.

He was unable to stand up and as he was very drunk, gardai could not understand what he was saying, Inspector Brendan Cadden told Drogheda District Court.

'He had to be taken away in an ambulance,' said Insp Cadden.

Murphy, of Cedarwood Road in Glasnevin pleaded guilty to being intoxicated on the date.

The unemployed man has been off the drink since last October, Drogheda District Court heard.

Appearing before the court last week, the defendant requested extra time to pay the previously imposed fine of €200, which Judge John Coughlan granted and gave him until September 1st.
