THE LORD MAYOR'S Show next May will be held in aid of the local St Vincent de Paul it has been announced.
In recognition of the vital and critical work performed by the staff and volunteers of the Drogheda Branch in caring and supporting poor people in Drogheda and district, Mayor Paul Bell announced that he will grant the annual Lord Mayor Show to the organisation to allow for critically needed funds to be raised.
'I took the decision not only in recognition of the work being done during the Christmas period by the SVP, but also to highlight that for many citizens poverty is a 365 day issue. The SVP help and support citizens with all kinds of everyday needs, from food provision, to assisting with utility bills such as gas, electricity and back to school support for children. I expect further demands on the services of the SVP in the year ahead and I want to support their effort through funding and awareness,' said Bell.
Mayor Bell also stressed the need for citizens to give what they can to the SVP this week in the lead up to Christmas.
'I have been asked by the St Vincent De Paul as Mayor to urge all citizens to give food products to the organisation for hampers which will be delivered to local families right up to Christmas day. While food vouchers are welcome, I am advised that actual food products are preferred. I know that the people of Drogheda will do their very best in making the best Christmas possible for those in need.' He was attending the annual 'Winner Takes All' hamper draw held in Scholars Townhouse Hotel last weekend.
