PROMISING defender Jimmy Dunne (15) has agreed a deal to join Premier League champions Manchester United.
The talented local player will put pen to paper on a four year contract with the English giants when he turns 16 in October. He is moving to Manchester at the start of September to begin school in the area.
The move signals the end of a long pursuit by some of the biggest names in English football. Jimmy has been travelling across the water since he was 12 and has had trials at Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
However, it was the Red Devils that secured the signature of the Blackrock native. It was a move that ticked all the right boxes for Jimmy after spending years in United's Belfast academy. He said: 'I have been involved with United since I was 10 and I have got to know the club and have felt really comfortable there so they were always my choice.
'It's exciting going over to Manchester because I have being flying over and back for so long that it feels like I am now ready to make the move. So I am just looking forward to giving it a shot and I feel ready'.
Despite the interest in the 6'2" centre-half from other clubs it was the effort that Manchester United officials went to that really impressed the family.
His father Eamon, a former member of the Louth senior panel, was surprised by how strongly the club felt like one big family.
'I am looking forward to the beginning of something new and knowing that I have an opportunity to pursue my dream,' said Jimmy.
