Huge need for a roundabout at Sunnyside site

A long-standing issue with a site at Sunnyside needs to be sorted out, a local councillor has claimed.

Speaking at last week's Drogheda Municipal District meeting, Cllr Kenneth Flood said that residents were keen to see the area developed to alleviate traffic issues in the area.

The Sacred Heart school is close by and a roundabout has been suggested at the spot to assist at key times.

The issue of who owns the land has been the subject of debate in the past and at the meeting Director of Services Paddy Donnelly again said it wasn't the council.

'The council were at the scene last year and said they may refresh the road markings but that's not enough,' Cllr Flood added. Cllr Richie Culhane said he witnessed a collision there and it was dangerous and a roundabout would slow traffic in the area.

Cllr Frank Godfrey said at key times it was hard to get in and out of the area and was very dangerous.

'I said 15 years ago to put in a roundabout but do we have title on the site. If we don't, we can't build on it,' Cllr Tommy Byrne remarked.
